We went to Tin Roof before the game and Two Keys after.

The real bars are downtown. The "bar scene" as it were. Those are just two bars that happen to be ajacent to campus.

A converted Huddle House or some such and a parking lot maybe 10 - 15 years ago. Not representative

Two Keys
Was a top bar in the USA back when Henry owned it. Since then it has had multiple owners and has gone downhill. Trading on their old glory days.
You were north campus and all those dorms are new or still under construction. If you had gone a few blocks down you would have hit some good spots downtown and if you had gone a block or two the other direction you would hit Pazzo's. If you headed to Memorial you eventually hit Woodland (where the riots are when UK wins NCAA's) and if you kept going you will eventually hit Chevy Chase which have some very nice watering holes.
As somebody stated earlier, Lexington has a MSA of 500,000 people so you really have to plan. You really want to hit the local spots with local owners. The chain places with corporate owners are pretty lame.

I would rather go to the dentist than go to Tin Roof or Two Keys. Great bar scene downtown. If you were pleasant and capable of speaking English sufficiently to communicate, someone would have probably told you.
Also, I tailgate on grass, steps away from my gate and under sizeable trees. Seems good to me? Granted, it's not a place some random visiting fan would be able to set up.
Put another way, Lexington has never (rightly or wrongly) been a city for the uninitiated.
