but why the hell did Baylor get so bitter over it?

Baylor was concerned that with us leaving, Texas and OU would get wandering eyes and they would be relegated to a C USA level conference if the Big 12 fell apart (which is where their football history indicates they belong, recent success aside). They only got into the Big 12 over TCU because of aggressive political action by Ann Richards, the governor at the time and a Baylor alum (if I remember the story correctly, some older Ags might be able to correct me here or provide more detail). NVM it was Bob Bullock

My order of hate for the TX schools goes

1. Texas- just flat out frick them. Probably the same way you feel about Clemson

2. Baylor- others will probably put Tech here because of their rambunctious fans, but I have Baylor here. All of the kids from HS who went to Baylor and the people I've met in the work world have been either a) extremely strange or b) total douchebags. It's a small sample size and I'm sure there are some good folks, but that's what I have to base it on. Them trying to block us from leaving with litigation pretty much summarizes the Baylor fanbase and mentality IMO. Also their fanbase was pathetic in terms of support for basically their entire history

3. Tech- on the flip side I know some great Tech folks who like to party and are passionate about their teams. I have experienced them get pretty riled up and give A&M fans shite but never anything too over the top like some others here probably have. I definitely enjoyed owning them and rubbing it in their faces the last few years in the Big 12 though

t4- the non Big 12 schools. I don't really have hate for them as I'm in my mid 20s and didn't experience the SWC. I could see myself fricking hating SMU if I was in school for their reign of terror though. Brief summaries of how I view them below in no particular order

Rice- great school gorgeous campus and a gorgeous neighborhood around it. I had a few friends from HS who played baseball here so I kind of side root for them in that when we aren't playing them. Also it's funny it's called Rice because there's a lot of Asian kids there

SMU- their reputation is well known, I barely consider this a TX school. Visited friends from HS there and it was all kids from Connecticut and California who wanted to live the TX/ Dallas stereotype for four years. Great grad programs, beautiful campus, and I enjoy taking over their campus for "away" games.

TCU- my backup if I hadn't been accepted to A&M. New and pretty campus, gorgeous girls, and Fort Worth is great. I hold very little contempt if any for them.

Lol I forgot UH- UH is an enormous commuter school that is just very meh to me. It has like 40k students and I grew up in Houston and don't know a single person who went there for undergrad, but know a ton who are in or completed grad degrees there while working in Houston. Most of those people went to A&M, UT or OU and don't really associate with UH, it just doesn't register

Biggest historical misconception. It wasn't Ann Richards who forced the BU/TT deal. It was Bob Bullock who made all the backroom deals. Hell, if my memory serves me right, Bob Bullock's backroom deals are the only reason we have Reed Arena.
