Maybe a free ride to a highly regarded University should be enough?

As I've said before, this isn't enough.

A scholarship doesn't put gas in your car or pay your rent. A stipend would though. A lot of players do get stipends now, but they're very modest, especially when you realize that they basically work full time jobs for the university.

How much money do you think SEC schools make off of football? I think it's fair for the players to get a little something extra (and Hugh Freeze agrees with me on this, for whatever that's worth).

Why would the players need gas money. They're in school. Everything they need is within walking distance. If they want to travel, its called "parents." Theres even a neat invention called a bicycle. If you can't afford rent, you shouldnt be in an apartment in college. I know its tough living in the dorms yada yada yada
