The best team as determined by the BCS uses different criteria than the SEC does.

I was using your criteria, "champions".

Oh good, more subjective criteria. How do you define "most successfully"?

But you're saying LSU was better than Alabama at the same time that Alabama was better than LSU. You have no meaningful definition of 'best'.

'Best' is subjective, 'champion' is objective. I suggest we drop the notion of trying to figure out who is 'best' because it is beset with bias and subjectivity, and focus on determining 'champions'. To that end we should minimize bias and subjectivity by selecting only conference champions to participate in a post-season tournament to crown a champion.

This is how you win the BCS

-be one of the top two teams as designed by the BCS formula at the end of the year.
-beat the other top two team.
BCS award for succeeding is NATIONAL CHAMP and is determined by consensus to be the best team in the country.

This is how you win the SEC

-have the most conference wins in your division or win any needed tiebreaker
-win the conference championship game against the best team of the opposing division

Do you see how these criteria are independent of one another? Yes, they use overlapping data, no the it is not impossible for Alabama to be the best team in the country and not be the best team in the SEC.

Try thinking of the SEC competition and the national championship competition as two entirely different sports.
