Cristil was one of a kind. I'd tune in to listen to him even though I didn't care about the game. He was classic.

When I was a kid down at our farm I remember listening to the Egg Bowl on a hand held radio out on the deer stand. I could only get the State broadcast so I tuned into Cristil for the first time. I was maybe 11 or 12. I will never forget this exact quote that somehow burned into my brain. Just a mundane event in the game, but Cristil turned it into poetry:

"And two youngsters are down on the field needing attention. A testimony to the hard hitting that is going on in the game, and a nod to the heat, that is beginning to take its toll as this contest moves late into the afternoon."

He made you see it.
