I disagree with folks giving me a rash of shite for something that I had nothing to do with. I don't really want to have to feel like it's necessary to defend myself at a football game because of this petty crap.
The anger should be directed at the player. Hero worship won't allow that though because the best players are infallible in the eyes of fans for the most part.
I hang with Gators and Dawgs in Jax and only tailgate with sane folks. I've never had any issues.

And I share your view of how things should be, I just made a comment about what I think may happen. Hope I am wrong...
