Yes the game sucked and we're all upset. There are a lot of negatives to take away but maybe we need some perspective.

Before the season most everyone said 6/6 was best case scenario. That's still easily achievable.

Our chances at winning any particular game depend heavily on a few things, most importantly is line play and the types of defenses we play.

The Fla D line is very good. Their secondary is good at being physical which is the number one thing our receivers have trouble with. Our receivers are not that physical, yet. Malone will get there. Vic is pretty good but he's out. North is finesse. An average to low average set of DBs that are very physical will give us trouble over technique type DBs every time. Combine that with good/great D line play and its trouble. We did shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties and kill ourselves at times but that doesn't change the above.

The Ga D line was average, their Defensive strength is in their LB corp. Their DBs were not physical nor did they play with great technique.

OK D was exceptionally strong in D line and LB corp play. We still managed to score some with their DBs lack of physicality and our exceptional focus and preparedness(IMO).

Utah State beat a ranked BYU team.

O line is getting a lot of blame, rightfully so. That said, some of these guys were playing HS ball last year. Think about that for a second. They went from lining up against players they outweighed by as much as 75lbs last year to playing against guys that will be playing on Sunday next year. Let that sink in.

How many 8th or 9th graders can play immediately on the O line against a middle to top level high school team and be immediately competitive? That's the equivalent comparison.

Our O line is on pace to give up well over 40 QB sacks this year.

Let that sink in. Worley will be sacked probably 40+ times this year. And yet,

We lost 2 SEC games by a combined total of 4 points.

Going forward. I've caught a bit of the Mizz, Ky and SC games. A bit of Ole Miss and Bama too.

I like our chances against KY and Vandy, a lot. Ky is improved but our defense will contain them fairly well and they are not as physical. Their schemes, quickness and scrappy play keeps them in games. Something this team can work effectively against and has done sa already this year.

Vandy is back to their rightful place in the cellar.

Mizzou is average on D at best. They don't stand out in any one area on D but they don't have glaring gaps either. Just decent across the board and I like our chances against them.

SC is a case of Jekyl and Hyde but they may be a head case by the time we get there. I really like our Defense against them. I like our receivers against SC, a lot. Their D line isn't as dominant as what we've already faced. We are set up like a trap game against them.

Ole Miss will be the best Defense we play the rest of the year and they may very well throttle us. We were in the game late against OK, a very talented top 10 team.

Bama is still figuring themselves out and they have injuries to a couple of players. They are very talented and may very well throttle us too but we are set up like a trap game for them too.
We were in the game late against OK, a very talented top 10 team.

Win 6, go to a bowl and hopefully finish 7/6.
Compete for the East in 2015. Nothing I have seen so far has made me change that opinion when you consider the entire body of work to date.

Thought you guys could use a bit of perspective and maybe a bit of sunshine. I'd like to hear Prof thoughts on this.

Solid analysis. Our fanbase certainly needs a little perspective.

All I know is that we'd better beat the shite out of Florida soon. Some of our fans might turn homicidal if we lose again.

Good post.

Hard to swallow a game like that against the Gators regardless of where we are as a team and program.

I was pissed for the weekend but I am afraid it's the last "pissed off" I had left in me. I am just numb after all the "almosts" and the flat out failures. I do think Butch it head in the right direction and I don't want him fired, I just cannot invest as much in UT as I used too, the prolonged agony has sapped me. I will watch and hope but I will not let it bankrupt my emotions anymore.

Its painful for a lot of reasons, too many to list here. Guys I lived in Florida for a couple years during Spurriers reign. I know all about hate and pain. Imagine having to live amongst those foul creatures

This week is a 'get right' week. We knew the schedule was going to be tough this year and that even if the team improved we may not see it in the win loss column.

Is there any doubt amongst anyone that the defense has improved? Any doubt at all.
Bueler...

Bueler....

Bueler

On Offense, do we have more weapons? Are those weapons going to get better and be in place for next year and beyond? Hell yeah.

Our O line needs work, badly. The best part of this is that unlike skill positions, which we have covered, O line is a developmental issue. Another year in the weight room, another year in the scheme. Another year on fundamentals. Those are what it takes to build a good line and the fundamentals aspect cant be overstated. These guys were being coached in fundamentals by a history/social studies/PE teacher last year. Let that sink in.
Our Offensive line was being taught fundamentals of blocking by a high school history teacher just last year.

They will get better at that position before the year is up. I still like our chances to go 6/6 this year and compete for the East next year.

Our Defense will be a monster next year and possibly championship caliber in 2016. Our Offense only has to be average with that kind of defense to win a lot of games. can they get to average or better between now and then? I think you all know the answer.

Focus on the big picture and bump this thread in the future.

Buddy, I was born and raised in Florida and suffered for 20 years of those assholes, I take this game more personally than most.

I really couldn't have said it any better myself. The defensive matchups tell all about those games.

Looking ahead...
OM's Defense really scares me - never thought I'd say that but they do. They'd scare me even if we had an average oline. But Bo is the key to that game - as goes Bo so does OM.

That said, Bama's oline is weaker than in past years and I believe they lost their starting center in the OM game. That sets up Derek Barnett, Maggitt, and others to have a field day. Bama's secondary is still weak so if we can get any pass protection at all we should be able to score on them. How much is anyone's guess at this point.

The rest are very winnable games even with our oline's troubles.

If it makes you feel any better... I can't help but feel we reversed the curse. Look at all that's happened to them since that game. Sure, it's a weird sorta reversal but it is a reversal. That game cost them many more games, imo.

Bama lost a center and a starting LB for our game. They have to play a very physical Ark team on the road, then aTm at home before coming here. They have an open date after us to heal up before LSU and Miss State. Bama has some athletes but A Cooper is their horse. Pass D is a pretty strong spot on our D. Shut him down or force Simms to at least check down to 2nd or 3rd choices and we'll make a couple plays. Theres also no telling what Lame Kitten will have up his sleeves.

Ole Miss relies very heavily on their defense and the passing attack of Bo Wallace. They are currently 93rd place for team rushing (UT is 107).

SC faces AU the week before us and has an open date after us before Florida.
