Anyone think the A&M beat down will be a blessing in disguise?

I really think that getting smashed by the Aggies in week 1 could prove to be one of the better things that happened to us. We still have some vulnerabilities in the secondary but I think being humbled really got them inspired to be better in hopes of never being embarrassed like that again.
We still have a long way to go. Mizzou won't beat easy and neither will @AU or @UF.. but they look like they've got some holes as well. Sometimes getting kicked in the teeth is exactly what someone (or some team) needs to get their asses into gear. I hope that what happened in week 1 is exactly what's happening to us.
I suppose if you're team is need of a wake-up, week 1 is the place to start.

Maybe. We'll see as the year goes on. If Mizzou does what aTm did then it wasn't.
I really think that aTm was the worst possible team we could have opened with though. Their offense played directly to our weakness. We showed improvement against ECU and UGA but we still need to improve more if we want to beat Mizzou

Exactly. I'm not sure if we would've beaten A&M if they were in a different place on the schedule, but I think the score would've looked a bit better if we had started with an ECU first.
A team with a similar offense, that could show our glaring weaknesses, but without the talent to actually take us down the way A&M did.

Maybe i am too dense, but getting publically raped and humiliated on national tv is never a blessing.

Some people respond well to it. I really believe getting knocked off a "high horse" can be the best thing for some people, and by extension a team. May be they realize they're going to have to work harder than they thought.

I get what you are saying but i prefer our "wake up" calls of the narrow victory over lesser team variety. A couple wofford games come to mind.
The A&M game was a chance for us to show out as a headline act and we failed misserably. Not to mention i thoughtit was our chance to get ahead of them in the season series. They are only going to get better. Thats probably a bigger problem with my personal expectations however.

The idea makes sense that it would be a blessing, but I agree with Foolish, I would rather learn the lesson with a close win. It is great to learn lessons, but do they have to come with a lose.

Yes, although I'm not sure I'd call it a blessing but rather a wake-up call to forget about all the preseason press they were getting and instead work harder and focus and do not overlook anyone from here on out.

Do they have to come with a loss? I don't think so. But one of my favorite philosophies of Frank Martin is that players, and fans, often let a victory mask the mistakes and flaws made in the game.
Let's say we beat A&M 53-52... does our defense get as focused for the following weeks vs ECU / UGA without all the criticism? Do they work as hard as the reports said they were doing? Who is to say.
