Can a knowledgeable poster explain how Meyer left the cupboard bare?

UF's recruiting rankings:

07: #1
08: #3
09: #11
10: #2

Was it attrition? Poor recruiting to fill needs? I don't think I've ever seen it explained. TIA.

OL recruiting was terrible. That or OL coaching was terrible or the players didn't fit the scheme or all of the above. We didn't have a decent TE on the team that was recruited as a TE. The RBs were tiny and useless the way they were used. Everyone knows JD sucks. It's been said here for years. We had tiny WRs for the pro style.

I'm told by many that recruiting rankings aren't everything.

None of that accounts for the locker room issues either.

BOTH. Transfers, the boot, and no OL recruiting. On top of that the personnel was better suited for the spread, and not for what Will wanted to run.

Boom has made many mistakes, but I think he is going in the right direction.

Well let's take Urban's 2010 class for example (guys who should have been upperclassmen this year and last). Out of 27 signees:

Gerald Christian - transferred
Robert Clark - transferred
Adrian Coxson - transferred
Jonathan Dowling - transferred
Chris Dunkley - transferred
Jordan Haden - transferred
Michael McFarland - transferred
Lynden Trail - transferred
Josh Shaw - transferred
Cody Riggs - transferred
Ian Silberman - transferred
Tyler Murphy - transferred
Neiron Ball - serious health issues prevented him from contributing until this year
Gideon Ajagbe - wasn't an SEC caliber player
Chaz Green - season ending injury last year
Dominique Easley - season ending injury last year
Sharrif Floyd - left early for NFL
Matt Elam - left early for NFL

That's basically an entire recruiting class that would have been upperclassmen this year and last that didn't contribute at all.

This has been my thing for a while -- he did leave the cupboard bare......

If you use a pro-style offense. Since none of the players were actually fit for that offense. For whatever reason he had a hard on for that philosophy from the very beginning without realizing that Florida hasn't been a pro-style team or recruited that way for over something like 30 years.

A lot of Florida fans love to blame everything on Meyer -- who made us relevant again. Muschamp just wasn't that smart of a dude coming into the program and thought things were going to go a lot different.

Unfortunately, having never played, coached or dealt with an offense his philosophy gave us the worst year we've had in a long time.
