The World Health Organization is pleading for a global investment of nearly $1 billion to fight the spread of Ebola, warning that the amount is merely the minimum needed to keep infections of the deadly virus "within the tens of thousands."

It will take a global effort to stop this outbreak of Ebola. The longer it stays in dense population centers, the more likely it is to evolve to a more easily transmissible virus.

Not convinced it's something we all need to be concerned about? Monitor the main news providers of the West African nations that are in full-scale battles with Ebola. It's like watching Outbreak but in a setting that has very few defenses against the disease.
