I like 12 teams. 8 conference champs, plus 4 at large. Top 4 conference champs get a bye, then use BCS(or something) to seed rest 5-12(regardless of at large or not).
I think this allows the smaller conferences a chanc, plus keeps the regular season meaningful, because you want to finish in the top 4 for the bye. Games up to semi's played at the home of the higher seed.

no way.
which 8 conferences?...

12 teams in a play-off adds four weeks/games.. unless the regular season is cut by at least two weeks, it cant happen.

And if that happens the "powder puff" schools on our schedules whose athletic department lives off getting spanked 64-0 every year will dissolve.
You won't see programs rise through the ranks like Appy state or GA Southern
