I think using the term "hang on" is inaccurate period though.

Hangs on = implies you had a lead and the other team came back somewhat and was threatening to overtake you and didn't.

FSU hung on.

I think the phrase "hang on" is being way overblown here. Doesn't a team always technically "hang on" in every win?
