College football is pretty much the only competitive sport I can think of where you have no sort of preseason, no scrimmages against other teams, or no exhibition games. There is a reason a lot of teams struggled.

We still pumped out over 500 yards of offense with a brand new QB and true freshman Left tackle. I think we only punted twice.

We only gave up 1 offensive TD and the defense really stepped up down the stretch when our offense stopped scoring and actually forced some good 3 & outs.

Outside of the Kickoff return TD, our special teams look great between JK Scott and Griffith.

We also really have no idea how good WVU is going to be, especially that offense that gave us so many issues.

Remember how panicked everyone was last year about how shitty our offense looked against VT last year? Well their defense turned out to be one of the best in CFB last year.

tl;dr:

I maintain our D didn't struggle. Sylve (and to a much lesser extent Jones) struggled.

Who else will WVU play that will hold them below 400 yards AND to only 1 offensive TD? Yes, they missed some opportunities, but so did we.

The D needs some work but it was missing it's most experienced LB and maybe best CB against a offense that had the players and coaching to exploit the areas experience was needed the most. People can keep acting like WVU is a "4-8 team" but Trickett played a damn good game.

There was the missed tackle on the KO return that lead to the TD but other than that our kicking and punting was terrific. I would feel more worrisome if our D had given up 125 less yards but instead missed a few of those FG's.

Cam Rob and the Oline looked good.WVU doesn't have the kind of personnel allot of SEC teams do up front but I was still impressed.

I do think for us to win the SEC we will need Coker's arm. Sims impressed me with his decision making and athleticism but his height and lack of deep passing ability takes to much away from our offense.

Speaking of overreactions, it seems like every team in the SEC (minus UA and South Carolina) is getting a lot of hype. This was the general consensus from the media after the first weekend: Tennessee is resurgent. Ole Miss & Miss State are both going to have breakout years. A&M and Auburn have taken over the West. LSU found their form in the second half against Wisconsin and should be an elite team come November. UGA should be the #1 team in the country.

Its funny because somebody has to lose.
