Arkansas' o-line looked less than impressive in the first half. Auburn's d-line was living in the backfield. The problem wasn't the push from Arkansas, it was hyper-aggressiveness by the d-linemen and LB out of position. The D-line and LB did not concentrate on gap assignments and were rushing every play like a passing down. They ended up passing the ball carrier in the backfield while opening up wide lanes. That's the adjustment you saw in the second half, the d-line for Auburn staying in their lanes, not over pursuing and LB's making proper gap fills.

there is some credence in what he said, just watched the re-play and i too noticed Auburn`s D-linemen were often in the backfield as if they were shooting gaps for penetration, just the wrong gaps..that being said Arky does have a fine O-line

That looked like it was the design of the run play they were running over and over again. Almost all of those big runs were the same play out of the exact same bunch formation. Smothers was letting the the DT go right past him and he was blocking the LB. Our FB, who lined up on the inside of the bunch was then coming across and picking up the penetration and the RB would have a huge hole because the DL was being too aggressive.
