I've been kicking around the idea of teaching English somewhere in South America or working in the hospitality industry in New Zealand for a year. Might put a dent in my work resume but frick it. Anybody just drop it all and go somewhere for a year?

I played a sport in Europe.

I used to think about teaching English abroad, but then I realized that it was wrong to do so, the program exists in order to perpetuate the western capitalists agenda.

I was very interested in working on farms abroad, but I didn't really like the WOOF scene and all of that.

But I do highly recommend you pursue this desire, this type of thing should and almost must be done while you still have youth.

I love how much this gets discussed on here. It's always good to see that some of you other people don't have it figured out either.

eta: I would do it in the right situation. Really wish I would have when I finished my undergrad. It would have to be a long term move for me to leave what I'm doing now.

I've been considering doing it as well. Been working for about three years since graduating but I don't love my current job. I have quite a bit of money saved up but have a car note so I dunno.

One of my good friends is doing that right now in South Korea and he loves it.

ETA: He left a really nice programming job at the premiere software development company in town to go teach English.

I took a few months off and traveled down South America, then to New Zealand.

Took a couple of years and worked as a sled dog handler for an Iditarod team.

Took a year off and looked for gold. Wife and I lived in an awesome little cabin in Skagway, Ak for a summer.

Now, feeling like I want to do something again. Feeling bored, restless working right now.
