North Texas had only been to the NCAA tournament once before Jones got there. He led North Texas to the tournament twice, won 4 conference titles, and for the first time ever put asses in the seats at UNT with an exciting brand of basketball.

His accolades there earned him some serious respect among Texas coaches, which is why LSU has such a great pipeline going with the state. In fact, we're really liking our chances with Elijah Thomas, as he said we're sitting in second place right now.

LSU didn't even have full OOC schedule or roster when he got here.

My point: it's pretty hilarious you're already chalking him up to be "very bad". I'm not saying he's elite, but in his young coaching career he's accomplished some good things. Last year was a little bit of a disappointment, but our two go-to guards were a generous 5'8", and one had serious character issues.

eta: I can't believe I actually responded to another MsGarrison thread. fml and 35-21

2 NCAA Tourneys in 14 years.

Pearl has 6 in 8 years. 15 in 17 years including DII.

Pearl led Milwuakee (who had never reached the tourney before) to two tourneys and the Sweet 16 and has won at a 70% clip in the SEC before.

6 tourneys in 6 years including 3 sweet 16s and an elite 8 at Tennessee after taking over a 15 win team.

It is not close.

Jones' teams do not play a good brand of basketball. Horrendous defensive teams throughout his coaching career.
