In smaller towns, when factories shut down, it's a huge blow to the economy. That's what happened to my hometown. 3 factories shut down in a short timeframe, causing the loss of a ton of jobs. When nothing else comes in to replace them, you have a bunch of blue collar workers without the education to find something else.
