I don't know if MU will be "down", per se, but I don't see them being as good as last year. Why not?

Well you lost 2 absolutely stud DL. I don't care who's gonna start, that production is difficult to replace. You lose your starting QB. Sure Mauk has potential, but if he was better than Franklin wouldnt' he have started instead? You lose one of the best RBs in the SEC last season. You also lost one of the most dynamic WRs in the league as far as playmaking ability.

I'm sure Missouri will be good, but I don't see them finishing top 2 in the east. I don't really think that's an outlandish prediction either.

Finally some decent reasoning! A couple counter points..

1. DLine was by far our deepest position last year and the loss of production will not come from starters. Ray and Golden will be just as good as Sam and Ealy. The 2 backups probably won't be as good as Ray and Golden were last year though

2. If Mauk can complete 60% of his passes, will put up bigger number than Franklin. He will also probably throw more INT's but he has more of that big play ability than Franklin.

3. We play 3 RB's so losing Josey is tough but not near the loss of DGB.

4. I have no counter argument for DGB, Mizzou will not have another receiver like him on our roster for a very, very long time

Pretty bold statement...

I don't believe they will be as productive as Sam and Ealy.

I just don't see that, sorry. One was SEC POY (maybe just defensive? I don't remember) and the other was just as disruptive. I just can't envision both their backups coming in and not missing a beat.

I don't know where to find it, but someone posted Mauk's numbers from last year against the "big name" SEC teams he faced and then his numbers against everyone else. It seemed like his numbers were average at BEST against the best teams he played, and he racked up against bottom feeders. Is that true?

It'll still hurt to lose him. Keith Marshall is awesome, but that doesn't mean we'd be just as good as if Gurley was here too.

Again, I'm not saying MU will suck. Just that they wont' be as good as last year. I'm not making excuses, although some mizzou fans will be along shortly to say I am, but UF and UGA both had catastrophic injuries last year. Like essentially record breaking injuries both in quality and quantity. UT is on the rise. SC is in the midst of their best run in school history.

Missouri did what they had to do last year, no doubt. I just don't see them doing it again.
