University of Mississippi is the fricking school's name. No one who doesn't already call us Mississippi will change shite. Ole Miss isn't going anywhere. The sky is still up there.
Exactly. "Ole Miss" has never been printed on anyone's diploma.

It appears the issue at hand is "Ole Miss" usage in email accounts.
Professors and researchers who have to interact with funding organizations and other academia-types are uncomfortable with the message "Ole Miss" could send. Whether students and/or alumni like it or not, in order for OM to evolve and compete with other universities for research dollars (and prestige), image is huge. It can be awkward at research conferences as well--particularly those that deal specifically with issues related to epistemology, diversity, resiliency, democratic classrooms, and learning environments.
Perhaps the answer is to provide UMiss.edu addresses for faculty (and any students who prefer it), and keep olemiss.edu accounts for students?
Change is damn hard.
Texas A&M has had to undergo multiple shifts over the past few decades.
We can relate.
Hope it works out for all involved, Rebs.
