Elam was in our recruiting discussions for a while last year. He was pretty high on the fans board (not sure how high he was on the coaches board) but the big question for us was whether or not he was too damned big for our system - a lot of folks thought he'd do far better in UK's defense than ours. Plus we had questions as to whether he could play immediately with his size and obviously since we're replacing both lines we couldn't take a chance there.

It looks like those who predicted he might be too large for us were right. We've slimmed down our D-line since last year going with slightly smaller but faster guys. Hopefully, they're right about the second part of their prediction that Elam would flourish in UK's system as after following his recruitment all last year he seems like a great kid.

I think he'll do well at UK. Anyone know if he's gonna RS or play immediately?

He's going to play. He's received high praise for his work during the summer and the first couple of days of camp.

How much he plays will be predicated on his conditioning and my guess is that he just plays situationally this season. 10-12 snaps per game maybe?

If more than that, it means he got his conditioning right, so that will be a good thing.
