I know there is another thread going about the Report coming out today but I think this one deserves it own thread.
If you get a chance read the Clarion Ledger article about UM takes steps to get rid of racism.
Many people close to the University have known this for several months. The article and report don't tell all that is happening. Dan Jones and Ross Bjork don't want this out yet but the modified version of From Dixie with love is going to be phased out completely within the next 4 years.
They contacted David Wilson and told him that this is happening and the end of the 4th year and they want the band to take the blame saying they just don't fell right performing it anymore. Wilson will not take the blame though. This is all on Dan Jones and Ross Bjork. Crazy fans, Frats, etc need to point blame at the right people here.
They have said, they specifically do not want the Dixie tune played on TV. Dan Jones said it is bad for the school's image. They will slowly also stop playing the Dixie tune after a big plays, and no more altered version of From Dixie with Love.
This was all suppose to be done in private. Sorry, I didn't think it was fair so I decided that people should know and not blame Mr. Wilson.

Dan Jones can suck it!! If you don't like Dixie.....mute the damn tv. Tired of PC crap. Just let Ole Miss be Ole Miss. Don't be so scared of offending somebody all the time.

It's Willson. I was part of meeting back as far as 2001 with Mr. Willson and and the athletic staff and Mr. Willson said as far back as then that the day that the band had to stop playing from Dixie With Love would come sooner rather then later. He never had plans to slow it down and was told by the AD and all the athletic staff that they didn't want it to go. The TSWRA crap threw a monkey wrench into that and the song was stopped for a year or 2. Even then though it was the Athletic staff that asked for a new version of From Dixie With Love. Mr. Willson had just accepted that it was the end and was ready to move on.

News update:
Dixie is used against us in recruiting. Would you like to lose a Jamal Peters every year or keep your tune? No answer is wrong but you have to decide which is more important to you.

I personally have a hard time believing that just a song prevents a player from coming to OM.
that being said if there was evidence that that keeps players away ten get rid of it.
Winning football games is #1 priority in my book.

A song that gives credit to an already pretty strong stereotype

I know you're a recruiting guru, but I'm gonna have to see proof for this.
No song convinces a kid to not play for a school.
That's too much.
So, basically, link?

Ole Miss is a business. It's not your country club.
I don't give a damn what they do away with if they feel it's better for the brand on a large scale. Progression and adaptation are more important than any tradition. Winning is the only thing that matters.

I don't believe you understand the concept of a state-run institution. Ole Miss exists for the benefit of all Mississippians, not in some bastardized motive to conceive a profit.

That's a sweeping statement which I doubt you can fully grasp.

If you haven't paid attention to the NFL lately, you'd know that politically-charged progression and winning do not walk hand-in-hand.

I do expect the Redskins to rebound once they can get some more Native American free agents though.

You referred to Ole Miss as a "business" in a previous post.
NFL teams certainly rely on their image to build their profits, which is the only thing that matters for a business, right?
I bet the Ravens haven't sold many pink, #27 jerseys lately.

Free agents are lining up to play in Oakland, if you haven't noticed.
You illogical fricktard.

I'm in favor of doing whatever it takes to recruit at a high level in order to win football games.
If eliminating a song helps the staff recruit, then so be it.

Do you really think Dixie and other things like it aren't used against is in recruiting?

quote:NFL teams rely on winning to build their profits. That's the same as NCAA football. The difference is that money is what you use to build an NFL team. In college you have to convince players to come play for you based on image. Is that difficult for you to understand? This isn't about Dixie keeping fans away. The NFL comparison doesn't work here.
NFL teams certainly rely on their image to build their profits, which is the only thing that matters for a business, right
