Could someone give some cliffs about this whole situation. It's all I'm seeing on my twitter feed and I literally have no clue what all the fuss is about.

Cliffs:

Only athletically are we to be referred to as "Ole Miss" and the "Rebels."

It's only a matter of time, I'd be willing to bet a decade or so, until we're only referred to as "the University of Mississippi" or "Mississippi" on top of removing "Rebels" from our repertoire.

Once more, the University is using the student as scapegoats. Recall Chancellor Khayat's statements about how Colonel Reb would "always be our mascot" and how the students "decided" that Rebel the Black Bear would be our new mascot when the University only presented us with three, hand-picked alternatives.

Some folks in here believe that things that happened in the 1960s still affect recruiting.

After reading that, the only thing that I can add to this discussion is that changing anything pretty much admits guilt which may or may not be in order, I don't know. Seems like a situation that anyone outside of OM can't really give an honest opinion.

We are the University of Mississippi. Why would it be a bad thing to be called what we are?
