"Alabama is 4.6 mil"

Where did the other 250,000 Alabama residents go since the last annual census.

"Birmingham (metro) is more Augusta (750,000) than Atlanta"

That explains the 250,000 missing Alabama residents in your post. Apparently most of them migrated to metro Augusta and inflated Augusta's less than 600,000 metro all the way to the 750,000 you magically gave them. I love wild hyperbole and exaggeration to make a point.

I say the greater Atlanta metro area needs to become its own state. No one in Atlanta claims the state of Georgia anyway and we already know Atlanta is basically its own state compared to the rest of Georgia.

I'm all for it.

4.6 mil est today based on United Nations data
AL data

The census numbers came in at 4.8 , but AL is the 36 fastest growing state and above estimates your current population, I have know idea where they went? I don't live there, thank God!

Birmingham 212,000 and Augusta 195,000 Suburban stats
Both have metro areas, outside their city limits
And Augusta's includes the MSA ( which includes Aiken, SC) at 590,000 ( I must have typed the 750 by mistake) MSA. I do not exaggerate on facts.

The point still remains , that the entire state of AL is smaller than the Atlanta Metro area , which is a top 10 tv market and 11 largest population center in the US.

Atlanta is an extremely diverse city and a magnet for Alumni from not only all SEC school alumnae, but schools from across the country, Birmingham has not one advantage to being the home of the SEC. And just like the NFL offices moved to NY , one day the SEC offices will have to move to a city that can provide it the advantages it needs.
