I'm sure all schools are fine. If you have no desire to leave your state or the Southeast, it really doesn't matter.
I will say this, from a "national" standpoint, it's recognized that Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, and Florida are the so called "cream of the crop" of the SEC. However, it is recognized as well that Alabama has made strong strides.
But in the end, if you want to stay in your particular area, who cares? I'm sure Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas and so on are very well represented by all of the SEC schools.
Obviously I want my children to attend the University of Michigan, but I'm also aware that we have a 35% acceptance rate. I wouldn't have any qualms if they decided on attending a SEC school.

Missouri is an excellent school that is just as good
They are in the distinguised AAU list and have an excellent medical and journalism school and a strong national reputation.

LSU is a national brand in engineering, construction management, most business majors (especially internal auditing), and architecture. Everything else is fine, as long as you're looking to stay in the Southeast region.
