I think marriage is valid for raising children, and if both partners believe they are doing something greater than themselves.

I don't think traditional marriage is archaic or oppressive. Marriage by its very nature is supposed to oppress a sorry-assed human's base desires so they don't go fricking the next best thing that walks by and smiles. Its supposed to discipline our baser instincts and create commitment rewards for otherwise extremely selfish creatures.
