Er...that probably sounded nicer in my head than it does out loud.

Seriously, though, I have just now formulated a theory wherein wood was a less-abundant resource in Scotland and Ireland than in eastern Europe, so naturally the Germans would be better at constructing completely wooden edifices and the Scots-Irish would be better at stone, clay, sod (a biggie in the Midwest of the time) and so forth.
