Why do they count? They won the B1G, which is the current home of old boring offensive football. The only top offensive team they beat is a tOSU team that runs a less modern offense than Meyer did at UF (and mostly beat themselves IMHO).
Compare that to Stanford beating Oregon a few times in the last few years, or LSU beating Oregon, West Virginia, 2013 Auburn, 2012 and 2013 A&M.
I think Michigan St. has one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, but an Oregon or Auburn would blow their top 30 talent off the field.
