13-1 lost to bama (SEC champion, beat pac-12 champion, beat ACC champion, should have been able to play big-12 champion)
12-1 lost to LSU (Lost at home, didn't win division, didn't win conference, got a mulligan)

the fact that you make a NCG without winning your own conference is one of many reasons why the BCS era will always be viewed differently.
