In every movie he makes, there is a hidden reference to Tennessee

If he's from East Tennessee you would have thought he'd be smart enough not to put live oaks with Spanish moss on a plantation in Gatlinburg for Django

He was smart enough to know that 99% of the people watching the movie wouldn't know any better.

Brad Pitt actually hung out in Maynardville preparing for his role in "Inglorious Basterds." Tarantino references E. TN because he's from Knoxville. We also have a lot of stars who regularly visit the area. They know they can stay and/or visit here without anyone harassing them. Harrison Ford, for example, is known to visit a certain lake. There's also a fairly famous director living in KnoxVegas and others.

Central location, great scenery and people who won't bug you and often won't recognize you because they're not looking for stars makes it a great location.

Another in the entertainment industry (comics/movies):

The guy who wrote Men in Black is from Knoxville.
