Slightly.

The numbers on the side of the helmet did become popular in 57.

Arkansas was the first to put their mascot on the side of the helmet, Texas copied the following year or so, since Bama does not have an actual mascot, they used numbers. LSU replaced the numbers with a flower, OU and aTm used their logo which consists of letters.

The uniform template used by Bama and OU originated at Arkansas. Bear swapped from white helmets to crimson as did OU after Arkansas switched from a white helmet with a red stripe to, a red helmet.
