I had lunch with him and his family day after Thanksgiving last year -- just a fantastic gentleman and representative for our university and state. Even at 89, he's still sharp as a tack when it comes to football and football history.

I was next to him on a plane to N.O. where he was doing the TV color for the Sugar Bowl...helluva guy! I told him that I lived one neighborhood over from Coach Bryant and we crossed paths occasionally. He laughed and said that he could tell me some great stories, but he was afraid I'd say something to Coach and he'd know where they came from. Apparently they and their families were close personal friends.
