Sorry to disappoint you, but LSU is 11th all-time in victories, and 8th in bowl appearances, AHEAD of Penn State, and waaaaaaaaay ahead of Florida State and Miami.
As a matter of fact, LSU was way ahead of Florida State and Miami - BEFORE those two programs starting winning regularly.

As I said, you can swap around teams for both of those tiers.

USC is only 9th in victories and winning percentage.

Alabama is 7th in victories and 6th in winning %

Again, you can't use just one stat to make you point. Victories are a really hard marker to use considering the level of competition that the different teams have had to historically play against. But regardless, Bama would be 4th in victories if it didn't have to vacate wins because of a signed napkin and some kids trying to sell text books.

Bama has the most national championships no matter if you only go by AP, AP + BCS + UPI, or claimed NCs. Bama has the most bowl appearances and victories.

I bet if you were to ask 100 "college football experts" who the best football programs were historically, more than 90 of them would have Bama in their top 2 or 3.

tab,
Surprisingly, I don't disagree with a whole hell of a lot of this. Yes, you should include a variety of criteria instead of just # of victories.
But I suspect that your 90 of 100 experts picking Bama in the top 2 or 3 would be a leeeeetle jaded because of the last 5 years of ultra-success Bama has had, RATHER than the 'all-time' historical numbers that really don't show them really as that high.
Don't get me wrong, I think their SEC titles and NC's DOES push them up higher than their 7th place in wins and 6th place in win% shows, I just don't think they should be considered #1 "all-time."
