My guess? Kennedy either resigns or is fired midseason and Stansbury becomes interim coach.
This is my nightmare. And he's allowed to stay on as head coach beyond the season.
I fricking despise you eric hyman.

If Beard can do a solid job at the point, we're going to be plain nasty.
I think you guys really over value the role of a "PG" in a motion offense and how Anderson uses his guards.
The roster should have the outside shooting threats in Bell, Babb, Beard, Madden, Qualls, and Durahm to keep teams out of a zone. That will allow Portis more movement to hit his spots against man and allow penetration possibilities from the guards.
There is no PG role in Anderson's philosophy, you have to have 2 guards who can handle the ball, at minimum, who will also play tough sound defense, and has some range to their shot. Look at the guard roster the past 3 years and find a guy who could do all of that and was also over 6'0" tall, that has been the problem.

Should have 2 of the best, if not the best, set of guards in the SEC with Mann and Gaines. Couple that with Frazier, Parker, Matin (Michigan player of the year), Thornton, and Derjzxhfdhch; we should be a very solid team.

I can't wait to watch UK's season. They're going to be scary good.
As for Mizzou, who the frick knows. Will have a more disciplined and structured team that plays better defense but we return ZERO in terms of scoring.
Shamburger: Hawaii 5th year transfer. Will play the point. 9.3 ppg
Clark: Sophomore PG played a lot as a freshman. 4.1 ppg
Bello: Baylor transfer plays the wing and PG in relief. 2.4 ppg
Biedscheid: ND transfer can play the 2 or 3. 6.2 ppg
Wright: Freshman shooting guard.
Gant: Freshman, Mr. Basketball in Georgia plays the 3 or 4.
Allen: Freshman who was late addition plays the 4.
JW3: Sophomore returning starter at the 4. 5.8 ppg
Rosburg: Junior stereotypical white stiff at the 5. 4.8 ppg
Post: Senior waste of space at the 5. 1.5 ppg
Jones: Sophomore with raw talent/high energy plays the 5 or the 4. 2.1 ppg
Yes, that's about 36 ppg returning. I hope either the freshmen average 15 ppg each or I hope the returners all double their offensive output.

A true PG isn't vital but guards that shoot is a must. I guess that's true of every team, but MA coached teams will jack it up and we know about the theory on rebounding, so it's even more important that you have multiple guards who can light it up.

I don't think it's that unreasonable. UK, UF and Arky should definitely be better. UGA was good in the league last year, but they aren't that much more talented than Auburn and Pearl>Fox. LSU is more talented, but they have Johnny Jones.
4-11 or so in this league is nothing special at all. If Bowers is good and Pearl can reign in Mason they could easily finish 4th or so imo. This league is not good at all.

Agree to disagree. I don't see it. I think it will take Bruce at least a year to get them to that point.
They will definitely be more competitive.

I just don't think it's that unreasonable in this league.
UGA lost to Georgia Tech and Davidson last season and finished 3rd in the league. There are a lot of teams in this league who no show 4-5 times a year in league play.
Auburn has second tier talent level in the league and the best coach in that tier. Just don't think it's that unreasonable for them to jump up to 4th or 5th.
ETA: I'm not saying I think it will happen, just that it's not that unreasonable

Our team should be much better this year in the non-conference. We were .500 until we got to the SEC where our players looked like they actually knew how to play basketball. I think we would have been a bubble team if we didn't have those miserable losses at Auburn and to Vandy at home.
This year we return every quality player other than Donte Williams who averaged about 5 points and 5 boards per game. If Mann can cut down on his turnovers he can be really good and Kenny Gaines is an absolute stud. I think the league will be better in general though so I would expect a similar SEC record of 12-6. Hopefully that along with a solid non-conference will be enough to get us around a 10 or 11 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Just watched Detrick Mostella play at the RTL. Reminds me of a more athletic Jordan McRae. Can score/finish from anywhere.
I don't see any way he doesn't start for us assuming he's cleared.
More impressive coming in than Hopson, McRae, Hubbs, etc. were at the RTL.
ETA: He is a couple inches smaller than McRae too. But he is an absolute scoring machine. Ty Lawson, Mike Beasley, Chris Lofton, Tobias Harris, Nolan Smith and some guys like that are supposed to play in the RTL a week from Monday. Will be interested to see how he fares against those guys.

Not necessarily, there are still team who use the PG as the distributor and not as an contributor to the offense.

MA coached teams will jack it up
He is fine with the first good shot taken instead of the best shot possible. It increases the tempo in the game. Why fans of some schools think their football should be played fast and their basketball played slow is beyond me, sounds backwards in fact.
quote:
we know about the theory on rebounding,
Its a proven theory/strategy/philosophy, it is a more aggressive approach than, "I must have a guy in my set prepared to rebound the missed shot" or "I must have a guys packing the lane to grab their missed shot, because we can't get the ball back any other way".
quote:
so it's even more important that you have multiple guards who can light it up.
It is important because it keeps teams out of a zone offense.
The motion does not work, well, against a zone. The high/low game and sets take longer to develop and decrease the amount of possessions in a game which Anderson does not want, zone defenses allow more "rest" for defensive players, today, than playing man because players, today, refuse to move the ball fast enough to wear out a team in zone.
