what I heard is that they wanted the feel of a MLB stadium, the turn has the city in the background. If you are sitting on the 3rd base line you can see downtown behind the right field fence. Also from the first base line you can see the pedestrian bridge in the background. It has everything to do with what people see in the stadium and not how the park plays.
