The first game was a fluke, you lose it too if not for multiple missed field goals. The second game PROVED it was a fluke.

How have so many bama fans deluded themselves into believing this? That game was a matchup of two of two of the best college defenses EVER. There's a reason both coaches gameplan were so conservative for that game. Nick took a chance on those low percentage FGs because he knew the chances of converting a 4th down against LSU was very, very slim.

The NC, as was stated earlier in the thread, was a horribly planned game by the LSU staff. Saban and co did a fantastic job of adjusting their gameplan on O to throw LSU off balance and came in ready to defend the option (which they didn't do a good job of in the first game) and Miles never made the necessary adjustments to even be competitive in the game.

ETA: calling it a fluke win for LSU is a serious disservice to those 2 defenses.

Bama had a great team that year and LSU went into Bryant Denny and left with a win. The manner is which that happened doesn't matter. I will always believe that the right two teams were matched up in the NC game but it did and still does suck for LSU that they had to try to beat Bama twice.
