make that first half of the season and you can add 2007 and 2009

One of those seasons we finished #2 in the country..

whoa whoa whoa..which angle do you wanna take? Because in the 90s when fulmer collected most of his wins, all he had in the east was UF. The other 4 teams were average at best to downright pathetic. Richt has had to face a down UT team (also some good ones in his early tenure), a UF team that has won more national titles in richt's tenure than spurrier ever did, a resurgent SC team, a vandy team that has actually tried to start playing football, and an auburn team that has won a national title for the first time in 50 years. Don't try to play the "richt has played a down ut" card without playing it both ways.

He almost seems as if he's been regressing as a coach after showing a ton of potential early in his career

He was, I agree. I completely agree that he still is now. I think you can look at it in phases:

01-04 (vangorder years): outstanding. Excellent record, excellent results
05-09 (martinez era): experienced some down points, but also won an SEC title and played in 2 sugar bowls
10-present (philosophy change): The biggest problem with the 05-current teams has been crappy assistant coaches. Richt was not very good at managing this aspect after vangorder left. He held onto martinez too long, and we didn't get an elite DC with grantham.

However, you can PLAINLY see richt being more aggressive starting with the 2011 season. After we lost to UCF he has changed as an offensive mind. We also showed this year that we could go out and get elite coordinators. Richt had struggled previously, but I think he's in the midst of an upswing currently.

In 11 we won the east. In 12 we were 1 game away from playing for it all. Last year we beat 2 top 10 teams in the first month before injuries crippled us. Richt isnt' done by a long shot.

Is that something UGA fans are ok with given the talent that's come through?

What choice do we have? That's a long conversation that's reserved for another thread, which has also been discussed many times.
