Muscle mass is also a huge part of that. A 6 foot 200 lb person with 2% body fat will sink like a rock compared to the same size but 20% body fat. That's why some of the best athletes in the world can't swim.

I have been saying the same thing for a while, except I use I-40 as the line. The bullshite Ohio St title is the only one by a team north of that road in the BCS era (the Tenn and OU campuses are just south of it). Here are some reasons listed by an Omaha sportswriter three years ago:
quote:

NO. 1: A GRAND FINALE - The SEC was the first to have a conference championship and it raised the level of competition.
NO. 2: A NATIONAL STAGE - The CBS contract gives the SEC unmatched exposure.
NO. 3: 'THE ACQUISITION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY' - SEC Coaches are paid more and they stay longer.
NO. 4: BROKEN PROMISES - Some SEC schools over-sign their recruiting classes.
NO. 5: STICKING TO DEFENSE - The SEC teams put many good athletes on defense while other conferences put almost all of their best athletes on offense.
NO. 6: A GREAT MIGRATION - The South is a growing area of the country in both population and the economy.

ADDITIONAL...
The BCS - Big 10 teams can't win titles by simply beating the Pac 10 champ in the Rose Bowl anymore.
