Tennessee's offense wasn't the reason that a twenty-something year old kid lit up The Chief that day in Birmingham.

I am just referencing the Chief's tenure in Baton Rouge.

I cant believe Tenn let him go. Bad call IMO. I am sure he is looking forward to matching wits with Lane Kiffin this season.

The only time I have seen a Chavis D look really bad vs Bama while at LSU was the second half of last years game. A defense that had been decimated with early departures to the NFL.

2009-played well enough to win, O couldn't cut it
2010-played well enough to win and did
2011-9-6 game we won(sick D!), and 1/9 is a little misleading. Our D did well enough to win the game at the start and got worn down for being on the field all game since it was our worst O performance in history when you look at the magnitude of that game
2012-Our D in that second half was so sick....two late drives on us during each half screwed us.
2013-1st half our D was solid, then got waxed in the second half.

Overall, pretty damn good job by the Chief while playing Bama. Blame the O for many of these losses.

Just my .02

Chavis may be a good DC, but after listening to Vol fans for years talk about "third and Chavis", as well as personally witnessing the carnage unleashed by Applewhite, Jessica Parker Wilson, Terry Grant, and DJ Hall, I and a lot of other fans will never think of him as highly as most commentators. Wilson was 32-46-363-3TDs-0INTs, Hall had 185 yards on 13 catches, and Grant rushed for over 100. No Glen Coffee. No Antoine Caldwell. No Marlon Davis. Chavis couldn't exploit the loss of an All-American center, another starting OL, and a future 3rd round RB? Vol CBs inexlicably and routinely gave Hall and other WRs large cushions. Third and Chavis is very real.

Its not Kiffin Chavis needs to be worried about, rather the man that is 8-3 against him.

I would say the 2012 loss by LSU is as much on Chavis as anyone. Saban and Bamas offense knew they could exploit Chavis at the end of halves.
