Glad you recognize that. I had relatives on both sides, but those mountain folk weren't so much fighting for the Union as they were fighting against an oppressive force that was forcing them into a fight they didn't see as theirs.
And, yes, we don't like government - at'all.

And probably explains why you're so oblivious as to why your ignorant gibberish about Nazi's, rednecks, and slavery, slavery, slavery would encite a strong reaction from someone.
You compare the GA state flag that waved over the hospital on the day I was born to the Nazi flag, and then you get your wittle feewings hurt when I react strongly to that type of idiocy? Huh? Really? I mean, for a while there, I thought you were actually going to cry. How dare I act like such a big bad meanie......and not just sit down and shut up when the righteous and pure almighty yankee stands up and lectures me on his short-sighted ridiculous fairy-tale version of my family's own damn history?!?!?!
Seriously. Grow thicker skin. Especially if you are going to regurgitate lies to people that don't respect Liars.

Any symbol that is rooted in a culture that enslaved a particular group of people should not be celebrated (or used to represent the entire state population). That is my personal opinion.
Note To All Blacks: A Thom arse decree has been issued declaring that you should no longer be allowed to wear your African colors, or any African flags, or symbols.
You see, the economy in Africa was once built and thrived for many many years by kidnapping it's own people and trading them into slavery, and so the african license plates on the front of your cars, the t-shirts, tattoos, necklaces, the red, black, and green leather jackets, etc etc all must go............ as they are offensive and vicious symbols of hatred and oppression.

Hey. Did you know that native american Indian tribes routinely kept slaves??? Mostly prisoners from wars with other tribes, but also african slaves later in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Hope you weren't planning on watching any Altanta "BRAVES" baseball this weekend.
Cause that'd be like cheering for nazis.

It's scary to consider how a large population can be essentially conditioned to ignore truly horrible things going on right in front of their noses...because its considered acceptable by the majority, convenient and communicated to the masses as being a means to a greater end.
Hmmm...could be some parallels to German camps as well...
You have to keep in mind that there are very high ranking liberals that firmly believe that the population needs to be controlled. People have written books on this. Abortion is just furthering that belief that population needs to be kept "Under Control" . Just look at John Holdren and countless other liberal elitest who believe this way. They could give 2 shits about it being the womans choice as they would have you believe. Human life is nothing to these people. Yet, we look at Hitler as a despicable human being and he was in fact despicable but we got VERY HIGH RANKING members of our congress that are equally evil. People make abortion comparison as a battle of mothers choice/Baby rights when the underlying reasoning is two fold.

I sure was hoping this thread would die a lot sooner than now, but in light of this fact I would just like to make a few points about the flag picture I posted and what I feel it currently represents for people today in the present.
The Confederate Battle Flag portion:
Nazi symbol:
As it is predominantly used today by Neo-Nazi hate groups and the Ku Klux Klan of today. It's just one of many symbols but assuredly the most widely reconizable as you can see below in the reference link.
LINK
The white middle finger symbol is self described and binds the total package together in making a point.
I might have supported the original posting with this 'tid bit of info as I guess social studies is a forgotten subject and one which is Gone with the Wind. Bad pun sorry.
The Confederate Battle Flag portion:

The flag, far from being an artifact of the state's Civil War heritage, was introduced in 1956 (in a bill cosponsored by a man named Jefferson Lee Davis) as an act of defiance against the civil rights movement. It replaced the state's original flag, a version of the first Confederate national flag (the "Stars and Bars"), with a banner incorporating the much more familiar (and inflammatory) "Southern Cross" of the Confederate battle flag (a blue St. Andrew's cross with white stars against a red background).

The flag is a symbol of resistance to a tyrannical government, nothing more...nothing less.

Its a pretty effective one two punch IMO. I lull them to sleep and bring them in with civil discourse and then Jefferson comes in off the top rope with the atomic elbow.

Sounds like a good bumper-sticker slogan, but certainly not a realistic sentiment held back in 1861.......
....when a newly formed country, the C.S.A., had to actually turn away hundreds of thousands of volunteers for their voluntary army because they didn't have the arms or equipment to keep up with the overwhelming swell of men that wanted to enlist.
**and before you bring it up.... Yes, both sides resorted to conscription eventually, but the numbers of those conscripted vs. those fighting voluntarily were miniscule..

Jefferson, it all depended on where we're talking about. Charleston? Savannah? Mobile? Memphis? Yes, men lined up in droves. The Choestoe Valley? Those folks still spoke Elizabethan English and thought they'd found "New Ulster". My people had no interest in anyone's war because, frankly, no one had given a damn about them until those people needed cannon fodder. And who's to say the CSA wouldn't have become just as tyrannical as the Federalists? Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. frick 'em all. I've got a few acres in a nice little valley, way away from the fruits and nuts and Reids and Boehners of the world. With any luck, I wont have to shoot anyone to keep it that way.
