That year began what may have been the best 4 year stretch in Alabama basketball history. Alabama won 3 straight regular season SEC titles starting the following year and the 1976 team lost in the final seconds to the undefeated 1976 Indiana team in the NCAA tournament. If the current seeding had been in place that year, Alabama likely would have ended up in the Final 4 that year with a legitimate shot at winning the whole thing.
P.S. Funny that you mention the 1973-1974 season and that Alabama team. I just happen to be looking at team photos from that era. My uncle played basketball for Alabama in the 3 seasons prior to that season. He played against Dave Winfield who played at Minnesota and against Paul Westphal who played at USC while he was there.

well,it was 74-69. Certainly final minutes.
One of my first blogs was about that '76 team. Ironically a win in OT on a controversial buzzer beater in Nashville may have kept them from the Final Four that season. "Subtraction by addition."
Who was your uncle? That '73 Alabama team was superb. They tied Vandy for second and swept them keeping Vandy from playing the '73 ME Regional at home.
