Dylan's stats were the last two seasons. Mauk's was over this season, primarily his three starts and the 4th quarter against Georgia.
Dylan Thompson:
2012 stats: 1027 passing yards, 8.1 ypa, 52% completion percentage, 10 TDs, 2 INTs, 23 yards rushing, .068 rushing ypc, and 1 rushing TD
2013 stats: 783 passing yards, 8.8 ypa, 58.4% completion percentage, 4 TDs, 3 INTs, 27 rushing yards, 1.69 rushing ypc, and 3 rushing TDs
Maty Mauk 2013 stats:
1071 passing yards, 8.1 ypa, 51.1% completion percentage, 11 TDs, 2 INTs, 229 yards rushing, 5.59 rushing ypc, and 1 rushing TD
Mauk's stats last season are very comparable to Dylan in 2012, except that Dylan is a statue and Mauk is a dynamic runner. Also, in 2012 Dylan did most of his work against non-con opponents: 330 yards and 3 TDs against East Carolina, 177 yards and 3 TDs against UAB, 310 yards and 3 TDs against Clemson, and 117 yards and 2 TDs against Michigan. Overall, 934 of his 1027 passing yards and all eleven of his TDs were against non-con opponents in 2012.
Nearly all of Mauk's playing time and stats this year were when Franklin got hurt and Mauk started in his place: the fourth quarter of the Georgia game and the three SEC opponents afterwards.
Both are good QBs. Mauk is more dynamic and has a higher ceiling.

quote:Who cares if they were against non-conference opponents? Michigan finished with the number 2 passing D in the nation in 2012. After we torched them for 330. That's how good they were.

And Clemson was a top ten team and it was at Clemson. Not an easy game.
quote:While I agree Mauk is a better runner, Thompson can still get after it and has 5 rushing TDs. He takes more sacks but he can run on a 3rd and 7 to pick up the first when he needs too.
except that Dylan is a statue and Mauk is a dynamic runner.
quote:This is probably true. But also, Thompson is a 5th year senior so he knows the system well and has been under Spurrier's wing for a while now and he's tough as hell.
Both are good QBs. Mauk is more dynamic and has a higher ceiling.
FWIW, no Gamecock has tried to tear down Mauk like Mizzou fans have done with Thompson continually. They are the best two returning QBs in the East next year.
