I don't see how would change during the middle of the summer and before his senior year. Its not like his grades are different now than a month ago. Unless he is in summer school or something.
If multiple schools really believe he had his hand out, they are either still recruiting or telling the NCAA

With so many different people claiming so many different things I think it's more gossip than anything else. For all we know there is no red flag or that red flag might be something as simple as a propensity toward shin splints or something like immaturity (which is a part of being a kid and often resolves itself once you get out of HS).
And it could absolutely nothing. Kid's a star and he's in the public spotlight. People want TG news and sometimes when there's no real news people make up their own.
