Grew up an LSU fan, but once I got on campus as a student, my fandom expanded beyond sports and covers the university as a whole. There is definitely a major difference.

Well said. Athletics has become even more of "just a game" for me, while it's just as exciting seeing our future alma mater growing like it is. Excited to anticipate my degree's worth increasing over these next 10 years.

This is the difference I think. I have nothing against people who root for schools they didn't attend but I take pride in more than just the sports teams at A&M. Fundraising efforts, new buildings on campus, alumni being named or elected to positions of power, etc.

There's a difference. I don't discount so-called tshirt fans. But there's a difference between a die-hard alum and a die-hard sidewalk fan.

Now I'd still rather have sidewalk fans vs alums who don't care about sports at all. I think its rare to find those people, though. Even the nerdiest, most intellectual people who went to your school will generally at least take a passing interest in its sports teams, just because they attended at least a few games as a student and have fond memories.
