i'm sure your post was tongue in cheek, but Ellis is in his 70s and didn't leave on good terms.
i want to find the NEXT bruce pearl... a young, energetic guy who can sell the program and actually coach basketball... that seems to be an almost impossible skillset to find.

I would rather Bama take a chance on a guy like Wojo who does all of Coach Ks interviews. Assuming we could even get the guy to talk to us.

How much money would an SEC school not named Kentucky or UF have to pay Smart for him to accept the job? Serious question

I dont think there is any amount he would go to any SEC school outside of those two for.

Really? Is he that well paid or that high up in the coaching ranks to only consider UK and UF?
EVery SEC team could outbid VCU.

Why would he take a job anywhere that isnt a premier job?

Pretty much. If you're an SEC AD hiring a basketball coach you're drinking maalox straight from the bottle followed by shots of tequila

He can get that at the premier jobs.
Shaka Smart is the Chris Petterson of CBB. He is going to be at VCU for a while and when he leaves it will be for the perfect opportunity for him.

I couldn't disagree more
maybe i wasn't giving him enough credit... the point i was making was he's not coach K or bob knight... i love the style his teams play with and he's had a nice 2 or 3 year run of late... but his career accomplishments aren't all that great for a guy who's got to be in his mid-60s.

That is a good comparison.
I guess I had him lower. MAybe he can hire the FGCU coach.

He wasnt lucky enough to start at a young age at Duke or Indiana.
Beilein is an elite coach. I wouldnt trade him for any other coach in the B1G.

I thought Smart was in his late 30's early 40's?
Either way, Basketball coaches don't have the pressure and wanderlust of football coaches. The NCAA tourney gives them more equal opportunity to win it all so they don't feel the need to move to a bigger school. I think they're more content to wait for the right job now

He's spent the last decade plus at two pretty damn good basketball programs... and all he's got to show for it is one final four. You may be right in that he's at the top of the BIG coaching ladder right now, which is impressive considering the depth of the league.
IMO, i'd take matta over JB, but that might be it... and yes, i know beilien's had good success against TM.
