Mississippi State and Dan Mullen have agreed in principle to a contract extension running through 2017-18 season, according to a source.

Mullen's contract can't run longer than four years because of Mississippi State University regulations, so the Bulldogs are essentially adding a year to Mullen's deal. The deal is not yet finalized.

Mullen, who reportedly makes close to $3 million per year, took MSU to four straight bowl games for the first time in school history. After a 4-6 start to 2013, the Bulldogs rallied with wins over Arkansas, Ole Miss and Rice in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

I'm finishing up Rome on HBO. So I am ready to take down a tyrant if Muffin gets out of control.

I realize there's things he could've done better, but there have also been other opportunities for him over the years. It has been a pretty hot last 5 years altogether.

to the New Hampshire boys loyalty to MSU. Never once in 2010 thought he'd still be here.
