AUBURN, Ala. -- In the end, the behind the scenes maneuvering, the influence peddling and even the waving of death certificates was to no avail.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and supporters of hurry-up, no-huddle offenses convincingly won this debate.
The proposed 10-second rule, which would have slowed down popular hurry-up, no-huddle offenses, was withdrawn by the NCAA Football Rules Committee a day before it was due to be voted on by the Playing Oversight Panel.
