Back in the day, Continental used to give Elite members some sort of milage multiplier for making multiple stops. My old man and his friends in sales used to fly from Houston to CS to Dallas and then to wherever they were actually headed to get double multipliers on their mileage. I think they discontinued the multiplier sometime prior to being purchased by United. I wonder if you can track an associated decrease in the number of passengers shuffled through Easterwood.

You can still make an Elite status on United through segments. If you don't make very many long hauls it's probably the easiest way to do it. I travel quite a bit for work, but don't fly international that often and only make status on miles because I'll do several long domestic trips like Seattle or Boston in a year.
