Thread hijack.

You're intelligent about a lot of things.v I'm interested in a subject that isn't being talked about and I was hoping to know your opinions. Can we talk about Ukraine somewhere?

The majority of my friends are first generation Ukrainian from the southern/Russian part of Ukraine.

They're pretty wishy washy on the whole thing, but recent developments by Russia after the Olympics (including the ethnic population flying Russian flags over the administration buildings and the buildup at the Sevastopol Airport) make me wonder why there isn't more news about it.

Add that to the docking of a Russian warship that's supposedly armed with nuclear weapons in Cuba and I get even more curious.

I thought the news that Russian flags were flying was especially interesting.

Putin's got a hard on after Sochi.

Haven't heard about the warships in Cuba.

This should bigger news. If true.

Interesting that the Russian Navy is kind of a second thought these days. The whole time I was in the Navy we weren't engaged with a Russian vessel once. But that was the late 90's.

This would be the first documented Naval "show of force" since the fall of the Soviet Union.

ETA: most warships are nuke capable, and every port visit is a "show of force". Probably nothing to see here.

When I saw this earlier I was running out the door, and I'm headed back out in a minute.

This seems like a trap, that was a little too complimentary to be anything but a trap. But I think I know you really wanted to ask what's the friends of the foil take on all of this.

I honestly haven't been into this Ukraine thing as much as I should.

Looks like the feelings of the Ukrainian people are being used to distract from the much larger geo political agenda.

This is a part of the goal to isolate Russia geo politically and firmly establish the western banking block in the Ukraine, making it a puppet state for western interests. Bringing the Ukraine into NATO is a huge grab for the west. It put's military bases on Russia's front, put's control of all the energy pipelines into the west's hands, allows the west to choose leaders and loot at will, it's a huge deal.

Guessing you've been following and know about the Ukraine's massive debt. Their initial attempt to take a no financial strings attached loan from Russia, which sparked the initial protest from the anti Russian western part of the country. The EU's offer which was riddled with strings attached. And Russia's threat to raise tariffs if the Ukraine accepts the EU offer. They're in a pretty shitty spot.

I think a 5 page response would still be omitting important things, and I really haven't delved too deep into this, so I'll just drop one conspiracy nugget as I'm headed out the door for the night.

The word down in the conspiracy slums is the US put Yushchenko in office in 2004 to create this massive debt and trigger this unrest. Yushchenko was chosen because of his Russian ties, causing certain uproar from the anti Russian west if he ever went to the Russians for financial help. The National Endowment for Democracy, Freedom House and the Open Society Institute are all a part of the Washington establishment, it's understood that these organizations and their affiliates funded Yushchenko. These same organizations are behind this current uprising. I'll come back and go into more detail on that, maybe.

Here's an article from The Institute for Political Economy on the US's involvement in the protests. LINK

I can't discuss now, but I'll be back tomorrow.

As to the trap, I guess it could be, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm a smart person, and I make sure everyone knows I'm smart IRL, and people dislike me for it.

I think you're me with a more aggressive/political slant on this board. I don't like you much based in your online persona, but I'm interested in your opinion as an intelligent person on this. It is what it is. I figure we can have discussions like this.

tl/dr; not a trap
