I don't remember paying to return. We walked about 3 blocks into the city and realized it was a bad a idea to continue walking. We saw cops walking around with AKs. The first buildings we saw were a dentist office and a pharmacy.

It's been a while since I've been to Mexico but it used to cost 50 cents to get back across. I don't know about now.
