HBC honestly didn't want the Bama job. His thing w/ SC was the challenge of doing something at a place that hadn't been done before. He wants to be the program's Godfather like the Bear. When Bama came calling, he's the one that told Bama to hold out for Saban because he wanted out of the NFL. At that time, his stock as a college coach in the SEC was much higher than Saban's, so if he expressed interest, it's very likely Bama would have made him an offer and not waited for Saban.

If Alabama had been able to get him a t-time at Augusta when he wanted it, and been able to get him there in an hour, he's be wearing a big old "A" on the front of his old ball cap!
